Brass Academy
The Ellington Brass Academy welcomes anyone of any age and ability. The band decided to reopen the Brass Academy in August 2010 and have been going from strength to strength ever since. We are very lucky to have members of the senior band who give their time to help at rehearsals.
Joining the Academy
The band currently rehearse at Chantry Middle school every Wednesday evening during term time
The rehearsals are split as follows, allowing 30 minutes where all players are brought together.
18:00 - 19:00: Beginners
18:30-19:30: More advanced
All players of all ability and instrument welcome to attend either/both rehearsals.

The Bands plans for 2013…
Continuing from their success in 2012 the band has entered the Wansbeck festival - let’s hope we can bring home some silver again! Some members have entered in the solo and duet sections as well- showing how much confidence they are gaining.
We are also hoping to play in some more concerts over the summer and Christmas period.
What we have already achieved …
2010
An open day was held in Morpeth to spread the word about brass bands and to encourage people to come and join in. The day was a success with some playing a brass instrument for the first time and the band has 14 regular members rehearsing weekly. The Academy played their first concert at St John’s Christmas concert to a very welcoming audience.
2011
In October the Academy and the band played a concert at Chantry Middle School to encourage some more kids to learn an instrument and join the Academy. The audience enjoyed the evening and the Academy played an excellent set including Summer Nights and All that Jazz in a concert themed ‘Night at the Movies’. We now have 10 more kids who are going to start having lessons and play in a second Academy band.
2012
The Academy had a successful year including competing (and bringing home a trophy) from the Wansbeck festival in April. September saw the two Junior bands merge and a busy Christmas period followed including turning on the Morpeth Christmas lights, Carols at the Plough Inn and playing at the Bands Christmas Concert in Ashington
